Nothing on the left side. It doesnt match up with any of the mounting clips for the brake lines...........So anyone have any ideas??

Probably the axle breather/brake pipe union.......you need to check against an exploded diagram.

What are the shoe widths?

Yes, that's where the breather goes, it's on top on the left side.

Cheers Chaps, just had a look around and my first mistake is looking at the diff the wrong way up.......God help me!.

Tis on the top of the left side..........

Had a look in the 72 Service manual and it just shows a tee and screw arrangement.

Is this easy to source over here??

Pete,

Had this from Dr Diff in the states (highly regarded on A bods only), and believe it to be correct (should be for the price). Measured 43" Perch to perch, 53" flange to flange and 57.5" Axle face to axle face. :thumbright:

Easy mistake to make Dave- I had a 9" case made up to my measurements by S&W in the U.S.
I had to fill in a line drawing with all my dimensions, I measured and re-measured and checked and double-checked...

Well I'd got the drawing upside-down so my diff was offset 1 1/4" the wrong way
No-one will believe you...

Hi Dave

Nice axle there chap

That is where the breather goes, you will also find that where your brake pipes run they have a T junction there. One bit goes on a flexi to the chassis junction, the others go to the left and right brakes.

KEEP THE BRAKE LINES OFF YOUR OTHER AXLE, dont damage them getting them off

They will fit

You will need to order 3 inch U bolts from Chris at Wasps and new/replacement shocker plates to fit a 8.75

All from Mancini last week....More clean shiney parts! :D

And if anyone is wondering why all the photo's i'm doing a photo rebuild and stupidly enough a cost spreadsheet................ :pale: As Dunc would say only live once! :thumbright:

Miles,

Piggy.........I'm gonna go for a 3.55 SG. Probably the best allrounder with my goals! This will be well after Crimbo though!
At that point i'm gonna try and tempt Mr Watts to dig one out if he's got one and rebuild it for me!

What brake drums are you using then - is it still 4" PCD??

No Pete,

I've got brand new (all but refurbed backing plates) 10x2.5 4.5pcd rear drums to go with it. Had a post up about the weight in the brakes section a few weeks ago! :thumbright:

Going back to the breather:

http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/axlevent.html

Is that what i need.........$26 for a vent. Add on shipping and its a £35 part......... ?
