'72 Challenger

Post by steveb »

Hi guys
Thought I’d try posting some pics for you lot to peruse. This is my ’72, now into my fourth year of ownership. It was imported in 1980 on a V reg, originally a yellow 340 Rallye, then red. Restored 2003-06 with a 440 six pack. It’s much as it was when I bought it but have made some changes eg starter motor, fuel pump, front bushes, wheels and tyres and changed six pack to a four barrel.
It’s my first venture into classic cars, this being a lifelong ambition since seeing Vanishing Point in 1972, and as the kids have grown up and the mortgage is paid I took the plunge before I’m really too old !!
Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

Duncan
The six pack was causing problems when I got it - beyond my ancient knowledge of tampering with SU’s and Strombergs! My local experts decided they were in need of a rebuild so the cheaper and easier option was the 750 four barrel. I must say it really transformed the car into a pleasure to start and drive.
The wheels – well - and as you say, as it is a bit of an ugly duckling, which was never going to turn into a swan under my ownership, after much deliberation I decided on these. I’m pleased with how they look and have had many positive comments.
I have a wad of bills and receipts from 2003 onwards. The engine was rebuilt by Dave Billadeau who remembers doing it and I believe you may have had a hand in the trans.

As mentioned, it’s been here since 1980. I believe it has been raced at some point but don’t know the previous owners before 2003. It has A 4.10 diff I believe, which would account for it sounding like it needs a fourth gear !!

It was resurrected by a guy in Hemel Hempstead who found it fairly locally. Previous reg was AVA 364V Maybe some of you will remember it? I’d be interested to know more history.

Steve - check this out

Unfortunately, this is one of the threads that was affected when we had 'technical issues' on here and all of the photos were lost in some of the older threads (including one of mine in the Workshop section)

The text should give you some useful info tho...

Thanks for the link "RobTwin"
Yep - must be the very same. Pity the pics are missing.
However I have seen pics of before the rebuild. After I contacted John Challis a couple of years ago, he called in and showed me an album-full when he was down this way. He couldn't help with much of the previous history though.
