Right then men.....parts ordered. Thanks Dave....Im going to mount mine where the orange box is on the bulkhead and wire it using the wires from the orange box connector.to keep it away from the heat of the engine as much as possible. I am going to make a vented housing to help air flow around it and will run one of my belt and braces additional earth leads from the module mounting points to a separate earth point on the bulkhead. I have the ballast resistor wires bolted on at the moment so will just remove them from the resistor and bolt them together. Will finish them off with heatshrink and tidy them into the loom. Will put the coil in the stock location on the intake manifold and connect the existing wires up to it......watch this space....

Ive gone for the black MSD Blaster coil that Dave listed as I can take the sticker off to keep the stock look and a US made HEI unit......the price on the link is for two units with combined postage. Thought it was wise for the extra £12 to order a spare

cheers Steve

edit....sorry mate...just checked the link I posted and its come up as the original link. I just clicked 2 in the quantity box when ordering and they just combined postage for me

Thanks Dave...is that a must for me when I bolt to the bulkhead or will a housing or shield do? If I get one of these, do I just drill and self tap the HEI box on then earth the bracket to the firewall?? :read2:

yep sounds fine

its not totally necessary but is a nice adition

remeber the module in its orginal OEM place in most of the cars that didn't use that kind of heat sink was just bolted to the advance plate inside the Dizzy

so if you bolt it to a lump of car that has no paint and use heat transfer compound you are pretty good to go on the heat sinking and earthing front

mines on a bit of angle i purchased from my local wickes. i put a little maplins heat sink on the back of the angle i bolted the module to the top of

halfords do little baggies of m2 and M3 bolts with nuts. can't remeber which you need.

but neither aspect is too much of a problem

Not a must and many don't use it. I would for added piece of mind or make one myself. A screw goes through the opening in the HEI module (one hole at either end near the pins), and should be screwed/bolted into the bodywork or mounting plate beneath it.

This will be your earth as the holes have metal inserts for just that. Just make sure that if your using a heat sink in addition, that thoses two surfaces have good contact.......Voila, 12V of driving fun.

I didnt read Dave999's whole post (he may of covered this), but remember you will need to go a step or 2 cooler on the spark plugs now your running 12 instead of 8. This should help improve the overall running (and apparently MPG and horses). :thumbright:

Edit.......Dave beat me to it!
