Just one point: Lean and Rich smell the same; unless you have an AFR meter you cannot tell the difference.........

You know what Pete, thinking back - last MOT time man took a reading as in his words ' i could run another car on whats coming out the back of that' and he had a tweak whilst his magic meter was connected - and halved the number. So quite possible. Either way - man with a machine needs to tweak it - shouldnt be that bad. It has a mechanical advance, a spark and a carb. Must be in there somewhere...

Quick answer - 'no'. I will pop the rocker off and crank/check.
I would be very surprised if not through - DaveB built the engine and Brutus may have re-built bits - either way, 2 very technical guys - would be very surprised if anything amiss... I am sure it will be right.

As for timing, it must be in the ballpark - it wouldnt run as well as it does.

Plus of course I have backed it right back to like 10init and it still runs. If the timing marks were out by any real margin this would likely tip it over the edge of being-able-to-run. Or is that actually the question ? "How late can you fire and still run" ?

And the point I keep coming back to - she runs *great*. Responsive, tyre-chirpy, V8 loveliness. Just smells really fumy.
I am puzzled how I can move the timing SO far though. :-k

Don't want to insult you (but why not - I insult everyone else  ) but are you sure you have the timing light on the #1 spark plug lead?

Dumb ass question I know but believe it or not I have twice found this was the problem. Once on this forum and once on my Challenger forum.

:)

Its not a silly question. Its been done before (I've done it before and couldnt understand why the mark I so carefully timed last time out had disappeared!). Yes, can confirm it #1.

There are no silly questions. I'm only really typing them up here as I think one of the most useful functions of this forum is for fututre generations to 'search'. I know I do, find out loads of stuff from the mopar-departed...

PS - I always appreciate your input Dave. Well... mostly. Some of the more libellous replies you can (insert bananarama!'s)
