disc pad rattle
Since finally putting disc brake conversion on the charger last year I've recently noticed a rattle coming from the front wheels. The disc brake kit is an old design ,single pot which I believe is based on the Abody setup.I did notice when I installed them that there was no springs of any sort to stop the pads moving about, and they do seem to rattle quite a bit to the point where it's quite audible.Should there have been a set of springs in the kit,i'm missing.Alternately could I get a spot of weld put on the disc pad tabs to stop the movement.Anybody else had this problem?

slider caliper ? , if so , your not going to believe the factory fix for this ! rubber bands , it hooks around the inner disc pad locating ears then round the anti rattle bracket clip thingy , see below , not 100 % how this goes , it was a long time prolly late 1988 & my brain has long since forgotten , I pulled a complete slider disc brake set up off a late model dodge , police car , took it all apart to check stuff , that's when I saw the rubber bands
obviously refitted how I found them . still got the set up in the shed , but the rubber bands long since rotted away
, today we got digital cameras , now I take pictures before dismantling stuff haha
see pictures below ,
never seen a picture of exactly how they go ever , who knows , they might not even been installed correctaly , on the set up I bought
picture 4 shows it as a o ring ?
await to be corrected on any of this

Ooh what type are they...
looks like I can get pads that fit my aussie brakes from US suppliers
similar but not the same as Aussie Girlock sliders
which don't have rubber bands
just a way more robust bracket to caliper head mounting thingy with a half height head on the bolt (need a modified socket to remove it)
do you have aussie brakes on your Dodge?
will have GIRLOCK stamped into the back of each bracket if you do
if you do maybe fitting US pads to aussie brakes results in a rattle

The Greater Knapweed near the Mugwort by the Buckthorn tree is dying
I'm amazed that the rubber bands can stand up to the temperature range when heavy breaking?

Pete ,yes they did squeal and I cured it with copper grease.
Steveo, yes that is the setup I've got.Don't recall seeing any elastic bands in the kit,and no mention of them in the installation instructions, and as Dave81 mentions not sure if hot brakes and elastic bands are a good mix.

Re: disc pad rattle
ive just cured this prob on 69 gtx, the outer pad just sits in the caliper, i had to bend the L shape tops of the pads to make them a snug fit in the caliper that cured the rattle as new spring clips are already fitted but it dont stop the outer pad rattlingrogthedodge wrote:Pete ,yes they did squeal and I cured it with copper grease.
