Guy told me that you never do a burn out in 1st, I can't remember why but something about things breaking. Why is this please?

Yep.....remember a thread about this issue some years back. In some cases the trans has exploded in first with such ferocity it has ripped through the floor taking out legs and other gory stuff.

Trans shield anyone..........

Talking of which, is there any reason not to manual shift and Bananarama! in first gear up the strip? I only ask as my 727 has a short shifting 1-2 so I manual shift it if I'm "playing'
Burn outs always in second, though.

Impressive!
Anyway, spoke to Blue; burn outs in second and Bananarama! in first if manual shifting, no problem.

On the road again! :wav:

After cleaning out the TC and cooler
and putting the new trans in (I needed another pair of hands for this - but it was a lot easier to lift the trans first and then put the TC in)
and refitting the pipework (and mending one of the oil lines)
and refilling it with ATF (Tip - you cant fill it all in one go or you get fluid all over the floor)
and fitting new UJs to the prop (and double-checking the f***ing C-clips)

I finally went out this morning and it works!!

The shift points are a bit high on light throttle (1-2 about 20mph, 2-3 about 40mph) so some adjustment still needed...

Thanks to Pete and Roydon for sourcing the trans.

Need something else to do now. :)

Nobodys mentioned the prop.mine was out of balance and split the tailshaft housing.could this not be a contributing factor?did the car have any previous vibration Dave?

Hi Roger. Yes and no. I used to get a lot of vibration from the prop, so a year or two back I had it balanced and that improved things a lot - but it is still not perfect.

The strangest thing is that at some speeds you can feel the vibrations sort of fade in and out... about once per second or so...

However, it is never that bad (it doesn't shake the steering or rattle your teeth) so my feeling is that somehow the front UJ lost a c-clip, then the cap worked its way off, then it went bang.
