vailiant
cars looking really good, axle too, love the style of them rear rims as well. keep up the good work.
Richard.

Back to it this week after our holiday. Can't do any more work on the axle until the prop is done so on with something else. Pulled the intake off the 318 and had a bit of a surprise, someone has spent a lot of time and effort totally deburring and polishing the whole of the valley area, it's very nice work. The 360 heads have been nicely port matched as well.

“It’s good enough for Nancy”
No there's something different going on here, the lifter bosses are not the same shape as normal and have a flat machined face and the sides of the block have deep oil return channels under each pushrod. Not sure exactly what's been done to it or why.Pete wrote:Very nice and loads of effort for next to no gain.......its not like you can put mirrors under it......

we've done that to a few V8s. done for circuit racing where the engine is at high rpm for a long time. less oil sticks to the block walls.
iv'e even put breathers in the manifold (no not into the runners) rather than the rocker covers because if you get bad piston blow by the gasses can prevent the oil returning from the heads if there are only small return holes. done for places like LeMans where you are at very high rpm for much longer so don't want to starve the sump of oil.

I don't think so, no need to grind clearance just for that. It's definatly modified for high RPM, possibly clearanced for roller lifters. I see no other oiling mods for drag use so my best guess is it was at some time built for a marine application.Pete wrote:Do you think it may have had TA Heads fitted in the past?

That was my immediate thought, though doesn't look like a lot of clearancing for those has been done, though I think it depends a lot on the specific brand?? Lifter bores aren't bushed are they? Doesn't look like it from what I can see in the photos.Blue wrote: possibly clearanced for roller lifters
Agree it would be unusual for someone to make those mods for high rpm without the other usual SB Mopar high RPM (7K+) mods. No tubed galleries etc? Have you looked at the bottom end, any mods to the oil supply/feed holes down there?

So this is how this weeks work is shaping up. Early '70's Edelbrock TR5 tunnel ram with 600 vac secs, will have it bead blasted after I've finished mocking it up. This should get the little incher revving...
