Demon James wrote:Actually, while I'm here and being lazy, can anyone tell me what size the bolts are that fix the trans to the engine so that I can get 4 to fix to my engine stand. I think they are going to need to be 4" long to reach through and fix safely :) Cheers.

Would 3/8 16 sound right? Or any suggestions for where I should be fixing to on the rear of the block?
hi they are 3/8 unc 4 off

Having not fixed an engine to a stand before, should I fix to the four threaded holes in the block or should the lower ones be even lower down the block?

The lower holes are not threaded as they took the bolts from the engine to the trans as opposed to the upper 4 holes taking the bolts from the trans to the engine.

My stand is rated over 600Kg so no probs there but I cant get my head round hanging a blinking great lump of iron from one end, it appears to defy gravity

It does not matter, whatever floats your boat and the size of your stand.

As Pete said, the last engine I had on my stand, I just used any bolt hole that would line up, bolt in or straight through.
It looks a bit precarious, but it's perfectly ok

I normally configure it so the pivot on the engine stand lines up as close as possible to the crank centreline, makes rotating the engine a lot more predictable. I had trouble finding UNC bolts in the right length, Summit sell an engine stand bolt kit so I bought one of those, sorted!
