Fuse size

Post by sublimemike »

What size fuse for a holley blue fuel pump? Mine died when I gave her the beanz on a dual carriageway ( working as booster to a mech pump on BB chebby) . Got home and found the plastic fuse holder had melted through to the ignition feed though the 20amp fuse fitted was intact?
TBH the pump is only really needed at higher revs though the previous owner said he had it on all the time. I future I'll just switch her on when required. At least it wasn't the fuel pump burn out.

Thanks

Holley reccomend a 7.5 fuse for it, depends on the gauge of wire used in the circuit though.
If you under fuse it, it'll just blow fuses all day. If you over fuse it the fuse will be fine but the entire length of cable will heat up and cause all sorts of nasties.

Thanks - 20 amp fuse way to much - hence fuse holder melt down . I've put a 10 amp in for now and will use when the motor needs it .

Anymore input welcome

If the fuse holder has melted, check the cable along its full length.

Yes , will do. The spade connector I think has soldered itself onto the fuse board on the spare ignition feed. The other side of the fuse holder to the toggle switch is ok. Car went fine today having replaced fuse holder but I'll check in more detail.
