8 volt coil with 12volt to it during the start cycle
hence my quip in a previous post about experimentation with the case of the alternator earthed
one of those wires switches it on
one of those wires doesn't but both are usually so mangled its hard to tell what colour they are.

Hi Dave I've left the other small wire disconnected as when I tested that terminal on the old starter it was dead even when operating the starter. Any idea what the ignition resistance should be as I want to buy a new one from my local factors ? My coil has 12volt stamped on the base along with use with resistor ? Thanks shaun
