Oil Pressure......

Post by Dave81 »

All,

What is the connection size of the stock oil pressure light on the rear of a SB Mopar?

Id like to hook up my oil pressure gauge and retain the oil pressure light, so thought it may be possible by incorporating a threaded tee?

So looking for the size?

Cheers

i think........

mopar oil fittings 1/8 NPT and 3/8 NPT

the first is about 10 mm diameter so if you undo it and its a tapered pipe fitting of nominally 10 mm you are on the right track

the latter is about 17 mm i don't think my sender is that big

but they used two sizes

NPT national pipe taper and its a US standard

british ones are different thread pitch one thread per inch different just enough to screw it all up :)

Yes 1/8" NPT . I do the same but have my tee at the gauge end to avoid clutter making it even harder getting at the distributor lock bolt. I use -3 hose as I don't trust that flimsy plastic pipe.

Thanks Chaps.

Have you any pictures of your install Blue?

After ive sorted the Trans i'm going to have to bite the bullit and rewire the car.
I want the engine bay to have as little wiring as possible, so having the connection inside tha cabin is a good shout!!

Do you need to draw any oil up the line to get the correct pressure reading, or should it 'auto pirme'?

Cheers!!!! :thumbright:

I'll see what I can do Dave, Gauges are out of the Valiant and I'm in the middle of sorting the Barracuda but I should be able to show you something. No need to prime pressure gauges.

Here you go, Valiant has the small sender to operate a light, Barracuda needs the big canister to operate the gauge in the rallye dash. Both only seem to work correctly if they are upright which is odd as I would imagine they are spring loaded, so bit more difficult to do. The gauge in the dash isn't up to much which is why I wanted a proper gauge, I can't do with stuff not working though so had to go this route.

Cheers blue.

Have you used a straight 1/8" NPT tee to do that or are the ports different sizes?

Don't worry extreme measures have been taken elsewhere to offset it...
