new suregrip

Post by Anonymous »

took the car to get mot'd today, and to do a short run since fitting the rear end back together, new 3.55:1 gears with a new suregrip unit installed, i had run it up on axlestands for 20 mins on sunday, with nothing untoward happening, temp was just luke warm after this, after the drive back from the mot [pass] checked the temp again and it was just a little warmer than on sunday, on the old set up i always had a clonk when i put it in drive this has now gone 8) on this note i would like to say a big thank you to dave robson who put the parts in my caseing and showed me "how to" as i have not done one before, cant wait to run it in then see how different it feels under a bit of power :D

How did the rpms feel with the lower gears Trev? Much difference or not?

When I went from 3.23s to 3.91s years ago it was a bit of a culture shock. I kept looking at the shifter to make sure i was not still in second gear by mistake.

hi again, sorry i havent replyed sooner, james the whole thing seems quieter, it used to really clonk going into drive ,now it dont do it, luverly!

dave took the car down to work to day and the gearing is definetly noticeable, i definetly wouldn't want anything deeper in there, your 4:10's must have felt horrendous at first, but the good thing is that around the streets the resonance from the flowmasters is earlier on in the rpm scale, so i wasnt sitting in that drone at 30 8) got the ramps to myself this week so gonna dinnitrol the underneath, also gonna check one or two things while im under there, mind you noticed a vibe at 4000 rpm
but it's not from the axle, seems more like from the motor, will have to get you in to see sometime, as it's probably me worring about nowt as usual

Dude! Mad Question from an "oh yes" post! I was a lucky dude in that a fellow MoparDude had a new SG and I bought his old one and refurbed it via Mancini. That's the whole story.....

I think your question is for Trev?

He is away for a few months in Iraq so he can't reply easily. Keeping his head down too I hope.

My Barracuda 'Clunks' when it goes into gear and changes gear too. Could the diff be the reason for this?

Yes. It could be the diff. Put the trans in neutral and rotate the prop shaft by hand with the rear brakes on. See how much play you have. Probably far too much backlash on the ring.

Got one with the same problem, no noticable play in the diff on a hand test, but put it in gear when the motor is running and the prop spins about 80 degrees before it takes up, explain that !

mine used to clunk when i put it in gear, the diff was absolutey knackered, i dont really know how to explain without knowing the names of all the parts, but there was lots of swarf in there, it had all kind of twisted round on itself, still worked though
