Anyone know off the top of their heads?
Contradictory info online (of course) and the list I have says 15 ft/lbs.
Just felt like hardly tightening it all, so just want to be sure.

UJ torque specs
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Re: UJ torque specs
the caps and contour of the yoke take the strain, if the caps stay in the yoke these little bolts see little stress.
the straps are just there to keep the cap in position they are not in any way directly taking the load applied by the motor
Aussie service manual
small dodge UJ
pressed, flat strap UJ clamps 170 LB/In (inch not foot)
these are tiny bolts with an imperial size look to be some where in the 8 - 11 mm size range
on mine they are supposed to have split washers under. mine never have... one of them now replaced, it was a mess, had, had its head drilled for retaining wire. mis matched set originally on mine.. swapped out when the slightly bent axle pinion/yoke was removed and replacement gear set added 20+ years ago
if you are using the big dodge yoke with the wider cross and the bigger caps ... you'd probably still be fine with that or a little more
if you are using a custom one with U bolts that wrap right round the caps dunno... it would in theory be easy enough to do them up tight enough to stretch the U and put a dent in the cap... which you don't wanna do....
i am not yer man for drag race/ serious heavy duty focused U Joints and their U bolts as i don't have a motor that is heavy duty enough to warrant a swap. i.e when i run what i brung i brung nearly stock standard...

Re: UJ torque specs
Cheers Dave.
Sounds like 15ft lbs could well be right, then.

Re: UJ torque specs
There are 2 sizes of UJ's on E bodies. If yer going racing make sure you got the bigger ones - Geoff Hauser told me that as I was only running the small ones to start
if you think speed kills don't get on a plane
Re: UJ torque specs
yeah as standard
small dodge 7260
big dodge 7290
unless you went custom stuff, replaced yokes, new prop shaft or a hotch potch of parts with a combination joint, like big 8 3/4 pinion yoke small drive shaft small trans yoke etc etc etc you will have one of the above on both ends.
if it was slant 6 or 318 and they had the small one you might have got small. if it was a big block you should have got large. saw an article years ago that implied that in a situation where a car just need to be finished they were quite prepared to use either if they were the available parts, who cares about warranty eh....... in a case of normal street driving it will have made no difference
there is a massive 3 inch one, used on trucks and motor homes
some detail here

Re: UJ torque specs
you are still rocking a relatively standard set up though and you have a prop loop....
i don't know...as i say. i just play to amuse myself using basic standard stuff
but i think an upgrade to bigger goes hand in hand with upgrading everything else
