It will mainly be a street car, but it will go up the track, to check on any improvements that have been added, however i would need a set of gears that would cover me for hooning oh and hooning, :D

Find out what rpm your engine makes peak torque. Then using my excel spreadsheet pick a rear gear/tyre diameter that will get you on that rpm at 70mph. Then you will have the best mileage on motorways and a good all round gear.

Most cars will benifit the most on the strip with 4.10:1 gears. If you are not interested in motorway mileage pick a gear between that one and the 4:10s.

If you know the duration of your cam I can give you a close idea.

Just out of interest Dave, if you don't know the duration of your cam, is their anyway to work it out (apart from pull it out...?)

Yes. But it involves pulling the intake and putting a dial guage on a couple of lobes to measure. Oh and a cam degree wheel on the crank damper.

Oh, if it's that easy, I'll do it tonight in my ten minute break between writing reports!!

No, I was just curious, as I have no clue what is in my lump...maybe someday I'll find out....

It would be very unusual to find anything other than a stock cam in a 318. But you never know.

I guess that makes sense, but when I was thinking of buying the Gunmetal Grey 318 Charger (now belonging to Morgan) the seller said it had a "Slightly warm Brown Cam" in it.
I took that to mean it had an increased duration and was manufactured by Brown...but this guy didn't seem to know that much about his motor, so he might have meant that when it was rebuilt it was slightly warm to the touch and brown in colour...   :P :D

I`ve been told it`s got a 509 cam, however in my file of paper work that came with the car, there is a Crower cam booklet, plus the camshaft timing tag, the part number is 32205, it lists the duration for intake at 286 deg, and exhaust 298 deg, lift is 483 for intake, lift is 507 for exhaust?,
Thanks Dave.

On reflection I also need to know if you use headers and single or dual plane intake manifold to get within 500rpm.
