lower ball joints

lower ball joints

i have brought new lower ball joints any suggestions on a good way to fit them to the lower control arm as they are a tight fit(like they are ment to be) i tried knocking them in with a hammer but no joy. i dont wanna keep tightening them up incase i strip the thread.

For the Duster, I had to get mine pressed in at a local garage...

i wonder if i made a jig up and used a big G clamp i could pull them in?

Would putting the wheels on the ground and moving the steering around a bit not help??

It might do but there is two problems with that.

1. i have no steering.

2. i have no wheels.

They are torqued to 100 pounds using castle nut,or am I missing something here.

I have no idea what you are trying to do but I would stop until you know how to do it, no bottom ball joint should need hitting or pressing for it to fit

If it's the top one, you need a special socket to screw it in, 'tis fiddly and you can wreck the thread in the A-arm (If it's not already wrecked taking the old one out!). You are better off doing this job with the A-arm still bolted to the car.

He is in serious trouble if he don't know the difference between an upper control arm and a lower one. :roll:

As i said its the lower control arm, i havent even tried to fit the upper one yet.

Well if it is the right size it should just fit though and tighten the nut to the correct torque. Job done.

You could always check the torque again later after it has driven a bit.
