Got a point there Pete, never forget Gary's Picnic night racing when at the top end my plastic header tank blew up and there was a mad rush to get it fixed for the next round of comp....Blue will remember that very well.....on reflection now, I reckon that was due to a small leak in the head/s.......

a good old 1050 dommie on the right 440 wakes them up no end as will a very good sixpak

i bet a 950 was not about in your day les ????

keep suggestions coming lads,

we should get a table up on who run what with a 440, engine drive train combos etc.

might be good information for any new mopar folk wanting to go fast
,
Thats a good idea dunc...you could have a form something like:-

Car:-.............
Weight w/driver..........
Engine size/CR......
Heads........
Cam/lift/dur......
Intake/Carb spec....
chassis......
Trans.....
G/ratio/tyre size....
60ft................
ET/mph at rpm?.......
or something similar, From that peeps would know hp numbers from the mph/weight using the calculator which would be pretty accurate :thumbright:

There are far slower 440's than yours Dave

Car/ 69 Dodge Dart GTS
Weight/ 3150-3200 with driver
Engine/CR 440 rb/ 12.7.1 comp
Heads/ Edelbrock RPM CNC ported skimmed .050, 76 cc
Cam/lift/dur Mopar .590 solid cam, .590/590 .271/271 dur at .050 at 106 installed at 104
Int/Carb/ Victor int+ 1" 4 hole spacer/ 950 holley DP, No PV's, jet 84/86
Chassis/ connectors, cage, SS springs, front segments clamped
Trans/ 727 RMVB with LBA, deep sump etc, UCC 4800 stall converter
G.Ratio/tyre size 4.56 Dana 31x10x15 hoosier slicks
60ft/ 1.44 best at mopars 2011
ET/MPH best 10.24 at 129mph at mopars 2011
best speed 10.31 at 130.16 at Gary's picnic
Car is almost street legal, i dont bother because of consumption and needs a mix of race fuel and pump.

Ok , let's see if i can encourage a few others to post, here's another one i ran in 93-94.
A 74 Plymouth Scamp, I p.ex'd a Dodge truck and some cash for it, came with a 440 in it, chassis connectors, home made manifolds, new quarters, full interior, bench seat, column shift auto, steel wheels. Weight i would say 3400 with driver at a guess. The guy had ran 14.3 best at 97mph.
I put f.wells on it, recurved the distributor so all the timing was in by 2000rpm approx.
On thin street tyres it ran best 13.4 at 104mph, over the next yr i fitted slicks and a 11" converter, it then ran 12.8 at 108 best.
Unfortunately, it was a basket case that i was welding up every other week, so i looked around for another body, nearly picked up a 70 barracuda for it but the guy gave me the runaround, this is all pre internet, just mags and exchange and mart so i advertised it for breaking, a guy bought the car and said he was going to repair it but i dont think he ever did.
Here's a rundown of the car specs.
74 Scamp
440, cast crank motor, 9-10.1 comp at a guess
.484 purple shaft hyd cam
torker intake
750 holley vac sec
2" hooker f.well headers
727 with 11" converter
8-3.4 S.grip with 3.91 gears
Very stock car, used to drive it everyday and to the strip as well.

Nice interesting thread this

I will put my info up but have misplaced my best timing slip as it was around I think 6 or seven years ago!

Car: 71.Roadrunner

Weight: >3800 lb's ? with me in it

Engine: 440 +40 , 11.3:1 ( alloy heads), around this area I believe. I built this about 12 years back!

Heads : Indy SR not ported.

Cam: Crower solid 265 in / 267 ex@.050, .574 /.585 lift

Intake / carb: M1 single with Holley HP 950

Chassis: cage and subframe connectors / Cal Tracs

Trans: manual valve 727 low gear set./ 3500 stall.

Gear Ratio / rear tyres 3:91 and 28 x 11x 15 Slicks

60 ft best 1.68

ET 11.55 / 118

:thumbright:

Best et/ time not been achieved since I have done some mods which had to be done ie bigger fuel pump / lines .

I feel 60ft is too high but this is heavy and still 440 not 540!

Need more seat time etc!

Hi Les,

Cookies Dart!
Used to run 8.3's at 180mph.
Street legal and all that stuff!
Now owned by Ray?
Me and Jimbo ran with an iron-headed 440 as funds were tight.
Ex Rob-Loring built motor, ex Grumpy's Dart?
Raised port 906's, 1/2'' spacers screwed to intake sides.
Steel crank, ali rods, venolia pistons 13 t0 1.
650 Crane roller cam with Crane Golds.
Team 'G' with 1050 street dominator.
4.56 gears and humungous tyres 31 x 16's.
Best run by Jimbo was 10.40 at 132ish.

Know there was more in there but we was running outta cash for race fuel lol!

bacca loves iron heads too!!! :thumbright:

Hi Again,

Mick Payne and the Artful Dodger!
Iron headed 440, ex Hauser motor.
He used to run 10.40's all day long in a very heavy 67 Coronet!
Tunnel ram with twin 750 double pumpers.
Think he used to cheat abit with a shot of NOS!!!
Story goes he had a buyer for the motor and run it one time too many.
Guess what, the motor went bang and 5grand went up the swanny!
Still got one of the heads orf dat motor, very nice work done by Hauser back in the day!!!

And Again,

Roger Povey and his 70 Cuda!
10.01 with a Koffel iron headed 451, (440-crank in a 400-block)
Had the heads orf that motor too when that went to mopar heaven.
They were so heavily ported they were lighter than ali ones LoL!!! :D
A true work of Art and proof that the iron head was King of the strip.
Koffel believed that the late model '452' head was even betta than the 906!
I think that motor will be back on the track agian in the near future, in another Cuda LoL.

bacca.
