Ford 9" Woes

Post by Kev »

My pal with the VF Valiant 426 sb, trans brake, 9", caltracs;
10.8 1/4, 1.5 60fts, trans brake @ 3400 = twisted and bent 9" housing, should of braced it :roll: . His diff shop is now talking wall bar tube? He reckons chrome moly would surfice. I reckon a good rear brace would surfice with standard tubes. He also has the springs relocated to the inside of the chassis rails which may not help. Any ideas???? I find it strange that the housing has bent at all as the car weighs 3250lb with him in it and surely the stroker isn't putting out heaps of power. Is the stroker torque killing it? One for you boys to consider........

Yea sounds like a weak casing , even an 8 3/4 would of held out @ that weight , what's the HP/TQ , around 500?

Our 8 3/4 ran better than that. Banjos are only thin material; I think bracing is required, especially on ladder bars :thumbright:

Standard 9" Ford axle cases are known to be a bit flimsy, heavier duty aftermarket ones are available, Moser for one do them...

I agree- my S&W case is barely recognisable as a 9"!
It has no external brace (that was an option) but has lots of internal gusseting/ overlapped sections, double thickness flange for the centre section, etc.
No-one will believe you...

Its just the Mopar rejecting alien parts :lol:

Lincoln 9" casing is the casing of choice apparently...but the rest of it is not so desirable.
