Anyone have early Hemi knowledge?

Post by shovelheadrob »

A mate of mine has a 54 Desoto with a 276 Hemi, just putting the motor back together after a crank job & he asked me to check the cam timing, I've been over today & there are no timing marks on either the crank sprocket or the cam sprocket. Had a bit of a google & can't find anything. Anyone had one of these?

I don't have any knowledge, but if it were me I would install the cam straight up.

You could mark the damper using a bit of masking tape & pen, bit of welding wire secured to a bolt as a pointer.

Then get No1 cyl inlet/exhaust so they are rocking, about to go up/down

Thanks Mark, that is what he has done for now & turned it over by hand, want to get it right before the pan goes on & the motor goes back in & it becomes a complete ball ache to sort out. The timing cover is a bit like a small block so need to have pan off to get bottom seal in place.
