Should they not be completely different as I was advised for the 383.

The 383 forged crank has a 4 arm plate and the cast crank plate is circular with a small section removed and these are not interchangeable for one or other crank type.

Is it not the same for the 440?

I think 400 is different as it is externally balanced, but stand to be corrected......

No worries, I would not use them in the first place - I would always use the B&M style full SFI Flex plates anyway, at least they do not fracture in service..........

nothing really wrong with the original chrysler flex plates, problems arise when engines are out of balance, people sit the mtr on them when out of the car and bend them, or bolts left loose and wreck them, they are fine up to around 500hp, it makes sense to use aftermarket but no essential,,,,
