My 68 charger loses its power steering under hard acceloration (its fine at all other times) anyone got any idea why.thanks

I had the same problem on my camero after a while I found the problem was that the pully was slipping on the power steering pump shaft. It worked fine when cruising parking etc nail the throttle and then it would stop working.I dont recomend this but cured it by hitting very quickly with the welder but then again it was only a chevy.

I reckon its belt slip. You won't notice it while the engine is idling but the belt on mine has to be really tight otherwise it squeaks on hard accel.

Ditto that Bratfink. I used to jam a big lever between the pump and the engine to force the pump out while I tightened the belt.
Of course then you have to start worrying about the bearing....
